What possibilities do I have to keep cats and dogs away?

How does an ultrasound device keep away cats and dogs?

The device emits a constant ultrahigh sound. Ultrasound is in a frequency range that humans cannot hear. Cats and dogs however find the sound extremely unpleasant, especially if it continues for a longer period of time. The animals will not immediately react, but over a period of one or two weeks they will start avoiding the areas, because to them it is uncomfortable and they learn that the sound is there at all times. Within three weeks the area covered by the ultrasonic speaker will be free of unwanted visitors.
